firms back maker of very light jet planes with funding round. August 22,
2006
DCM-Doll Capital Management said Wednesday it led a coterie of investors
to invest $92 million in Adam Aircraft, a manufacturer of very
light jets. Adam, based in Englewood, Colorado, is one of a handful
of boutique companies that have made headlines recently with their
"think small" approach to air travel. |
The Adam Aircraft A500
and A700 VLJs
Adam Aircraft designs and manufactures
a family of innovative general aviation aircraft, including the
centerline thrust, twin-engine A500, and the A700 twin-engine AdamJet.
By combining modern technologies, rapid
deployment processes, and innovative engineering, Adam Aircraft is
designing and building new high-performance aircraft that are raising
the standards of quality and value in general aviation.
"Flying in the Adam A500 S/N 0005
was a good experience. My flight begged a comparison to my extensive
experience in Beech 58P and Duke models. The A500 seems to be almost as
roomy in the rear as the Duke. Passengers would really appreciate that.
I can say for sure that it’s a lot easier to get into the front seats in
the Adam! Yet it burns fuel much more like a 58P. A normal mortal could
afford to operate it. And it’s a lot more comfortable than a 58P for a
large guy." Pilot Comment. |

The NBAA defines VLJs as
single-pilot jets that weigh 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms) or less.
They generally have two engines, five or six passenger seats, electronic
cockpits and cost half as much as the most inexpensive business jet now
in service.

The Adams Aircraft A700
Private Jet will deliver jet performance and
reliability at a fraction of the cost of today's business
jets. With an advanced carbon composite airframe design
and highly efficient Williams FJ33 turbofan engines, the A700
is a collaboration of industry leading technologies.
|
|
These VLJ
business jets will be mostly used for private jets,
jet charters and fractional
jet ownerships.

One of the
most striking designs comes from Adam Aircraft, a company based
in Utah. Its A700 has twin tails stretching out behind the
central cabin. Capable of seating five passengers along with the pilot,
the A700 will cost about $2.2m. The company has orders for more
than 400.
Low operating
costs, comfortable seating for up to 8 in air taxi configuration, or
seating for up to 7 with an aft lavatory, and state-of-the-art avionics
make the A700 a natural choice for customers considering jet ownership.
Adam Aircraft A500 News
Englewood, CO, April 26, 2006- Today
Adam Aircraft announced that the A700 AdamJet flew to 41,000 feet and
achieved a true airspeed of 340 knots. The aircraft was crewed by Senior
Turbine Test Pilot Ken Sasine and co-pilot Dan Brand.
The aircraft departed Centennial Airport on April 20, 2006, on a test
flight to verify the planned maximum operating altitude, and the
aircraft performed a direct climb to 41,000 feet. Passing through 39,000
feet, the climb rate was still in excess of 1,000 feet-per-minute. The
aircraft flew level at 41,000 feet for approximately five minutes,
reaching a maximum true airspeed of 340 knots. As expected, the airplane
performed flawlessly.
Many of
these very light jets (VLJs) will also be used for air taxis
aside from business jet charters
and private jet ownership.
